Hi, I’m Austin. As a Navy veteran, it is an honor to organize a race that pays tribute to everyone whose lives were forever changed by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

The events of 9/11 were one of the biggest reasons I chose to join the military. Even at a young age, I felt a calling to serve my country and help protect the freedoms we often take for granted. I knew it was my duty as an American to answer that call.

I’d like to invite you to take a journey with me back to September 11, 2001—a day that changed our nation forever.

THE RACE FORMAT

2-Mile Run

We will begin the race with a two-mile run in honor of Stephen Siller. Stephen was a New York City firefighter who had just finished his shift and was on his way home when he learned of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

When he arrived at the entrance to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, he found it closed to vehicle traffic. Without hesitation, he parked his truck, put on his firefighting gear, and ran the remaining two miles to the Twin Towers to help those in need.

Stephen Siller made the ultimate sacrifice that day, giving his life while responding to the emergency. Today, we honor his courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to serving others.
